St. Gabriel's — September 2018

Message from St. Gabriel's

Please can you remind your Yr 6 parents that if they are applying to St Gabriel’s for a place in September 2018 they must post/email  a copy of their child’s Roman Catholic baptismal certificate to us or they may not get offered a place.  I think I have received most of them but there are still some outstanding.

Beaks Experiment

As part of our study of evolution and inheritance, the children have been looking at how creatures adapt and evolve in order to survive in their environment. We have looked at the work of Charles Darwin and in particular his study of the finches on the Galapagos Islands. We did an experiment to see which type of "beak" would be the most efficient at picking up seeds, using different sizes of tweezers and even chopsticks!  (25.5.18)

Purple Mash

Purple Mash is an award-winning website for primary school children. It enables the children to explore and enhance their knowledge in a fun and creative way. The children have been provided with an individual login to support topics that have been covered in class.  Click on link below to access the site:-

Here are some websites that we find very useful in Y6:

Internet Safety

There is a new resource for parents and carers about internet safety.  "Video guides for the free ISP parental controls".   These guidelines have been produced by Safer internet who have been working with BT, Sky, Talk Talk and Virgin Media, who have each made short video clips outlining where you can find their free parental controls, what they do and how you set them up.

These films are available on the UK Safer Internet Centre website and you can embed the films if you want to use them or download them.  See .  Do please make use of them and let people know about them.     The ISPs have committed to keeping these films updated, and if you embed the films on your site, we are able to update them for you if they change
