Year 2

Welcome to our Year 2 Classes

The teachers in Year 2 are Mrs. Hamer and Mrs. Smith.

Our teaching assistants are Mrs. Campbell, Miss Robertson and Mrs. Roylance.

Welcome Note

Welcome to Year 2.

In Year 2 your child will need to bring their reading book bag every day.  They will be able to change their books on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, providing the reading record book has been signed.  Please ensure they only bring their reading book, reading folder, and relevant homework in their books bags (NO KEYRINGS or TAGS), as it needs to fit in a small tray along with their indoor PE kit (white T- shirt, black shorts and black pumps — no bag needed).  ALL PE KITS MUST BE LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILD'S NAME.

For outdoor PE your child will need to bring their PE kit (tracksuit, extra T-Shirt and Velcro trainers) in on the outdoor PE day only in a stringed sports bag.  Due to both the limited cloakroom space and because PE kits can get wet, they will need to bring it home the same day.

All stationery will be provided by school and the children will not be allowed to bring pencil cases.

Thank you.

Year 2 staff.

Year 2 — "Settling In…."

The children in Year 2 have been having lots of fun settling into their new classes.  (22.9.17)

Purple Mash

Purple Mash is an award-winning website for primary school children. It enables the children to explore and enhance their knowledge in a fun and creative way. The children have been provided with an individual login to support topics that have been covered in class.  Click on link below to access the site:-

Aftercare

Please note that children who are not collected at 3.15 p.m. will automatically be placed into aftercare.  You only need to contact the school office if someone other than yourself or who doesn't appear on your emergency contact list is collecting your child so the aftercare staff are aware.  This will save the class being disturbed during teaching.   Thank you for your support.

Reading at home

We would appreciate it if your child could read each evening for around ten minutes. For a lot of the children now, discussion of the text is far more important than whether or not they can read the words (because probably they can!). So as a guidance it may be that you read 3 or 4 pages and then spend the rest of the time asking your child about what they have read. This will be discussed in some detail during our first Parents Meeting in October. Please note that as your child/ren progresses through the reading scheme the books become lengthier and it is therefore not expected for them to complete more than one a week.

As in Year 1 the children will be taught reading during Guided Reading sessions with their teacher. For this we use different books and monitor progression through separate record keeping. Therefore teachers will not hear the children read the books that they bring home. However we do have teaching assistants and helpers from the parish that come in to hear readers and so sometimes you may see a comment from one of these people in your child’s record.

Spellings

Spellings will be sent home with your child on a Friday for you to practise at home together. We will then have a spelling test each Friday to assess progress made. We are very grateful for any support you can provide your child with in this area. The children have been given a spelling book to stick their spellings into. This is book is also for use at home when they children are practising their spellings. It must be brought in to school every Friday.

Water Bottles (Please fill with Water Only).

Your child is welcome to bring a water bottle to school each day to drink in class. It must however has a 'sports lid' that eliminates (well reduces the risk of spills). We encourage the children to take them home each evening, rinse them and bring them in full each day.

Internet Safety

There is a new resource for parents and carers about internet safety.  "Video guides for the free ISP parental controls".   These guidelines have been produced by Safer internet who have been working with BT, Sky, Talk Talk and Virgin Media, who have each made short video clips outlining where you can find their free parental controls, what they do and how you set them up.

These films are available on the UK Safer Internet Centre website and you can embed the films if you want to use them or download them.  See http://www.saferinternet.org.uk/advice-and-resources/parents-and-carers/parental-controls .  Do please make use of them and let people know about them.     The ISPs have committed to keeping these films updated, and if you embed the films on your site, we are able to update them for you if they change
