Hidden Gem 2016

The year 6 choir performed at lunchtime Advent Carol Service at St Mary's Church (the "Hidden Gem") in Manchester on Thursday 8th December. They sang and behaved beautifully and all the staff who accompanied the children were extremely proud of them. The church was packed and it was lovely to see so many parents, grandparents and parishioners who had come along to support us - thank you! The choir will be singing these songs again at the Year 4 French Nativity concert on Thursday 15th December in church.

We also had a lot of feedback, as the email below shows:-

“I visited the Christmas Markets outside the town hall today and encountered pupils from 'St Vincent’s’; however I didn't find out which school! If it was your school, I would like to say what a polite and well behaved group they were. They began a 'crocodile walk' through the market in front of me. One young lady stopped and held back her fellow pupils to allow me to pass, twice! It was a pleasure to keep seeing them as I perused the market. I'm glad they had a chance to look whilst it wasn't too busy; they looked as though they were enjoying themselves.   They were a credit to your school.”

And from people who attended the service at St. Mary’s:-

“I live in South Manchester and attended the service today at St. Mary’s, I just wanted to ring and tell you the choir were absolutely wonderful, the soloist perfect, and all the children and staff wonderful”.

Please find below a small slide show of some photographs of the day.

We hope you enjoy the video below of the performance. (14.12.16)

Sing Up Gold Award

We are very pleased that the school has successfully achieved the "Sing Up" Gold award. Sing Up is a not-for-profit music education organisation based in the UK aiming to promote quality singing activities in everyday learning. Sing Up Awards recognise schools who put promote singing in school life. There are three different levels:  Silver, Gold and Platinum.

In order to achieve the gold award the school had to provide evidence showing that we:

Provide opportunities for the whole school to engage in and enjoy singing.

  • Extend the range and choice of singing opportunities across school life.
  • Commit to the on-going development of confidence and competence in singing and vocal leadership.
  • Embed singing in school planning and show that singing contributes to the achievement of school goals.

School Orchestra

Every Wednesday during our KS2 assembly, the school orchestra accompanies the hymn singing. This year we are delighted that we have over 20 members, playing violins, clarinets, guitars and recorders. They are making a very good sound and Mrs Golding would like to thank them for their hard work and commitment. Well done!
